I don't think it's going to come to that, although I'll agree that it's a possibility if things don't change. Even my parents, who have been hard core Limbaugh republicans ever since I've known them, think enough is just about enough. They think it's time to drag a few dozen CEO's and the next 40 to 50 top executives below them into the street and shoot them. Then turn to the rest of them, and I’m quoting my father here, say “get the message now or should we reload?”
The original goatse is a picture. I don't know of this facepaint you're talking about but having seen the goatse picture once I can guarantee it's 1) not a facepaint and 2) too disturbing to have someone decide to draw that on their face.

My first thought was why the ***** are you at a Britney Spears concert :P?
One step closer to scientists being able to produce life in a lab. Still not anywhere in the foreseeable future though. |

The thing that strikes me is how many of these punishments are based on accusations and not proof or due process. We need an 11th (28th?) amendment to add to the Bill of Rights that will work online. The Bill of Rights has worked quite well for more than 200 years, but it barely applies online, and there are significant dangers involved with the continued use of outdated laws. The potential for griefing by large corporations is enormous, and also worries me greatly. One example of this is how Valve's "Meet the Scout" in the TF2 shorts was pulled off of Youtube by Viacom because of supposed copyright infringement. I really wish people would study up on the issues of copyright and not assume that they are forced to screw over either artists or consumers. There is such a thing as promoting reasonable download services like iTunes, Steam, and the like in order to combat piracy while helping consumers. It's not a black or white issue, but people have been focusing on the negative and how to punish to the point that possible solutions and positives have been lost.

The article doesn't give you any context, it assumes that you know all about Apple and rest is history. This was not a sure thing, at the end of 1996 Apple was shopping for a new operating system, after many years of failing and MS rulling the earth with Win95. Inside Apple there was a great debate, they had choice to make between Be OS or NeXT. Those who remember Be Os was an awesome OS, jobs had his work cut. This went on for months, Gil Amelio was sold when Jobs made the final pitch at the eleventh hour. What is remarkable about his comeback is that in 1997 Apple was losing so much money, and in desperation to please investors sort like a hail mary, the board made a series of moves, needles to say that the old guard was fired including boar members. So with the help of one board member Fred Anderson Jobs was named to the board as a chairman and later as an interim ceo. I don't think it was a walk in the park but I'm sure some may disagree there were a lot things that needed to fold in place in order for him to take over the reigns of Apple. |
