“It's true that most of the 3rd world is living at the edge of starvation. We do a LOT to try to fix that, but we can't do enough. We really cannot. The fact that we have 150 million productive people in the US (people who file taxes, anyway) compared to over 7 BILLION people in the rest of the world says it all. China and India have more rich people than the entire population of the U.S., and yet we don't consider them to be "rich" countries. The Arabs have more money than we do, and the average citizen of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, etc. are much more affluent than we are. They have abject poverty in their countries, much worse than we do here. What's the point of all of this? Billions of people live in places that cannot support them. There is not enough water, not enough farmland. As a result, we have starvation. It's NOT OUR FAULT that people live in those conditions. We don't have enough resources to fix the entire world, no matter what the UN believes. We can help, but you guys have got to stop pointing fingers at us and saying "You are not fixing this!"

It's very obvious why a poll would report that. "Liberal" has been made into a derogatory word in America. Of course people don't want to identify it as a label.You have to poll people's opinions on policy, while using neutral terms, to get a good gauge of their true ideology.?
We don't know exactly what the effects of injection 25 gigatons of CO2 (about 50 trillion pounds) per year have on the environment, but it probably includes an effect on climate as well as most chemical and biological systems on the planet.One never knows exactly how many bones will be broken when hit by a train either. But, is it a good idea to try to avoid the train?I'm not a fan of many proposed carbon sequestration concepts, such as iron fertilization, deep ocean CO2 injection, SO2 injection (cooling effect only). However, I attended an interesting lecture about the capacity for mantle rocks exposed on the surface to form carbonates. This is similar to the process fueling the mid-Atlantic Lost City peridotite-hosted hydrothermal vent field.My point is, there may well be ways to enhance the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere, as well as curbing its production. And, 10s of billions is not that much to invest, really. |

Actually with the ease of access to student loans, tuition is easier to "pay" for now than they used to be. Mind you I use the term pay loosely, a better choice would have been "get up your eyes in debt"But yes, the reason that tuition has skyrocketed in the fashion that they have is due to the government regulating the hell out of the student loans market.

Anyone that didn't think in the back of their mind "I bet it was a Muslim" is lying or lacking in imagination.While some might want to spin that as a sign of pervasive racism/xenophobia... it's actually just a healthy dose of common sense.It's not politically correct... it's just reality.To balance the point, I generally assume all serial killers are white guys... because most of them are white guys. I assume most rapists are men... and I assume most school shootings are done by loser outcast kids...Are you afraid an old lady will mug you... or six twentysomething guys at 2 in the morning? The same part of the brain that answers that question makes the assumption above.Just an obvious point that increasingly needs to be made as people substitute political correctness for informed discretion. If you let PC think for you, you're not actually thinking... you're just running on doctrine like a 14th century Cardinal.
